Channel your inner hippie for festival season

If we had to choose our favourite summer look, festival style would definitely be at the top of our list. Laidback bohemian hippie styling is definitely the fashionista’s choice of the season. So, with that in mind, here are our top tips on how to ramp up your style credentials and create the perfect carefree hippie-inspired look, for your favourite festival this summer.

How to get hippie-inspired hair

Hippie hair is all about free flowing locks that embrace the natural kinks and waves in your hair. But let’s be honest, after a few nights at a festival, the bed head can get seriously out of control. So, if you’re after those loose carefree waves, we recommend putting in some groundwork before you leave the house, so that you can reap the style rewards later. We know it may not be the true hippie way, but wonderful waves don’t come easy.

Get the look: The day you’re leaving for the festival, curl your hair loosely with a chunky curling wand or tong. For soft, more natural looking curls, try to alternate the direction of each curl. Next, carefully run your fingers through your hair to separate the curls and spray with a light hold hairspray. And the best part is, second day waves can be more brushed-out and unstructured, so make sure you take some dry shampoo to keep the style lasting longer.

Top Tip: Decorate your locks with some flowers or hair feathers to create the real hippie vibe.

Hippie Plaits

If you find your hair is difficult to maintain and sleeping in a tent gives you a seriously matted mane, then we suggest styling your hair in French plaits. This style can keep your hair under control through even the roughest night’s sleep and we think it’s the ultimate go to style for simple and stylish hair – perfect for the last days of the festival, when dry shampoo just isn’t cutting it.

Get the look: Section your hair into two and create a French plait down either side of the head. Finish by jazzing this look up with some glitter down the middle of your parting to add some serious sparkle to your style.

Top Tip: Sleeping in your plaits can give them a looser more natural look – perfect for an authentic hippie style.

The fashion

Get the ultimate bohemian look at your favourite festival; our carefully chosen checklist will ensure you’re looking as fashionable and free spirited as any true hippie.

  • Floral patterned skirts/ dresses
  • Crochet tops/ dresses
  • Cut-off denim shorts
  • Denim jacket
  • Round sunglasses
  • Material tied bracelets
  • Floral head garland
  • Peace symbolled jewellery
  • Wellies
  • Tasselled bag
  • Sandals
  • Poncho

The face

Finally, let’s talk about the face. Natural glowing skin is de rigueur for festival-goers, but we know that going sans makeup is likely to cause cold-sweats for most of us. So, for those of us out there who can’t bear to part with our makeup (and we include ourselves in that group!), we suggest creating an understated natural look with products that are multi-tasking. Think a complexion-perfecting tinted moisturiser with a dusting of a luminous bronzer, coupled with nude-toned lipsticks and eye shadows. And don’t forget your waterproof mascara to finish off the look.

Similar to the hippie waves in your hair – if you can put in some groundwork at home pre-festival, naturally glowing skin will be oh-so-much-easier to maintain whilst you are camping. And of course we have the perfect beauty tool to get you the glow. The Remington REVEAL Compact Facial Cleansing Brush not only cleanses and exfoliates your skin, leaving you looking rejuvenated and fresh-faced, but it can also be charged and taken to the festival with you – yes, you can thank us later.
